Description

This isn't about a pothole, this is another issue and I don't know who else to turn to.

North Tryon Street, from about 31st Street, past 32nd Street towards Atando, is always full of rocks and gravel. The combination of the metal recycling plant and their gravel lot on the east side of Tryon, with the trucking company on the west side of Tryon, always tracks lots of dirt and rocks into Tryon. Due to the high traffic nature of the street, it is often shifted into the turn lanes in the 31st St and 32nd St areas.

The NCDOT, not the city, is responsible for cleaning/sweeping the street since it is a state highway. Unfortunately, its only swept once a month, due to NCDOT's maintenance department sharing a street sweeper and only having access to it for half of each month.

I've 18 wheelers kick gravel into my car, crack my windshield, and I have had other co-workers and people from neighboring businesses have their vehicles damaged as well.

I don't know who to get in touch with to request more allocated resources to NCDOT's maintenance department in next budget. I know the trucking company and the recycling company are responsible for erosion control on their own property, so they are responsible for the mess in the first place.

It wouldn't be that big of a deal if it weren't for the infrequency of once-a-month street cleaning. But unfortunately the street barely stays clear for a day or two before it becomes another rock quarry in the middle of a high traffic street.

Feel free to contact me with any questions. Like I said, I don't know who to turn to, but this is an issue that definitely needs a resolution.
