The posted speed limit is 30 in a residential area. Cars on this road travel in excess of 50 miles an hour. A few speed bumps would slow traffic to a normal rate.
In response to the comment regarding speeding on Bradford Hills Drive, Metro Public Works has developed the Metro Neighborhood Traffic Management Program. This program works with neighborhood groups through a step by step, proggresive approach to addressing cut through speeding traffic, certain speeds, and volume thresholds. Traffic Management effects the entire neighborhood and because of this the neighborhood as a whole is required to participate. More information about this program, and an application can be downloaded from Nashville web page at www.nashville.gov/pw/mntmp/. Once you have downloaded the application, and have it signed by your Neighborhood Group Representative, please mail it to our office at the address listed on the application, ATT Benny Word. Once the application is received we can further investigate your neighborhood for the program.
My husband & I were actually hit by a speeding driver while trying to pull into our drive way on Bradford Hills Dr. We had our turn signal on & went to pull in to our drive way & this person tried to pass us on the right & nailed us on the passenger side. In addition, I can't tell you how many times I have been walking in the bike lane along Bradford Hills & have had to go up into the grass to avoid being hit due to speeding drivers taking curves too fast & veering into the bike lane. Speed bumps/humps would definately resolve the issue. People travel an excess of 70 miles per hour going down the hill as per the speeding sign that was set up by the metro police dept. They also set up a police officer at the bottom of the hill a couple of times for a speed zone. He was catching so many speeders that he had to actually call for assistance.
The Traffic Calming Program has many different options for addressing cut through speeding traffic. Physical changes such as speed humps are not always the most effective way to resolve speeding issues in every neighborhood. This is why we suggest that the neighborhood group within the area meet with the Traffic Calming coordinator to try and come up with the best solution for each individual neighborhood. Please let me know if I can further assist.
PLEASE help us with this problem!! I live on Bradford Hills Dr. and cannot tell you all the 'CLOSE CALLS" I have had due to speeders on our street!!!!!
This is a HUGE problem that I have been trying to fight for a while, to no avail! Councilman Parker Toler, and the rest of the city, obviously don't care about the safety in our neighborhood. Cobble Street is part of the cut through and MUST NOT be overlooked in this speeding insanity! If the local government won't take action, the locals will. And that could get dangerous! Cars have been hit, animals have been killed, and like most things, this won't be addressed until a human is killed. I do my part in yelling at the speeders, and the arguments that have ensued. Something more drastic needs to happen. If you don't we will!! Please help us NOW!! Your just being aware of things for the last several years means SQUAT! DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!! Or we will elect someone who will!
Right now, there is a speed limit sign that posts peoples speeds in front of my house. Yesterday morning at 742am(I looked at my watch) There was a vehical that posted 63 miles per hour!!!! Come ON!!! That is the speed we use to drive the interstate..not on a residentail neighborhood!!! I personally have called PD and have let them use my drive to sit in and catch speeders. This has just got to stop!!! I love it when the people try t pass me in the bike lanes when I am trying to pull into my driveway. I have lived here for over 13 years and I am sick and tired of the whole speeding thru my neighborhood. Please someone help us!!
I also live off of Bradford Hills and walk in the "bike lane" with my small children and dog. Several times I have seeen cars "pass" in the bike lane, or treat it as a driving lane. These cars drive at excessive speeds. We have also tried to turn into our street and have been passed on the right in the bike lane almost turning into cars that treat this lane as a "passing lane" which it is not. This is a neighborhood that has moderate pedestrian activity that would be increased if they could feel safe while walking for exercise or to nearby destinations. The speed detection signs have been placed on this road in the past and the speeding has continued.
I live in Holt Woods and we filed a Metro Traffic Management Program application with Benny Word a year ago....after meeting with him MONTHS prior to that time. After hearing nothing, I called and was asked to send again, which I did. That was approximately a year ago. To date, we have still heard absolutely nothing from your department. Frustration is mounting in our neighborhood and adjoining Bradford Hills neighborhood. I truly believe someone is going to have to be killed before anything is done to help with the speeding problem.
I don't understand why we have to continue to have meaningless meeting after meeting that resolves nothing. Especially, when the police have witnessed incident after incident - be they vehicle accidents, speeding tickets, or whatever. It's been well documented that this is an existing problem. Why are we still being required to go through all this beaurcracy? Is this what you people do w/ our tax dollars?
We do understand your frustrations, and we do want to help you and your neighbors try to get this problem resolved. The best way to get this done is for everyone to work together. I will be glad to set up a neighborhood meeting with your neighborhood group, and the traffic calming coordinator (Benny Word) to discuss this matter further. However, without any contact information or an application with a neighborhood contact person we are at a stand still with this request. I will be glad to assist in whatever way possible. Anyone of you can contact me by email or at the number listed below.
I challenge anyone who dares to come stand in my front yard Monday thru Friday between the hours of 7 and 9 am and see just how fast folks speed thru this neighborhood. You will not like how it makes you feel...so try walking with your kids or riding your bikes..you wouldn't even tempt it my friend. Oh and IF you happen to yell slow down??? You will get flipped off, cussed ta and yes even swerved at!! Nice..so we would appreciate you helping us with our neighborhood...you sure wouldn't tolerate it in yours.
Metro Public Works has tried to assist Holt woods Subdivision as much as possible by placing the speed trailer out on Holt Run Drive and Stone Run Drive . This subdivision is a one way in-one way out neighborhood that is all dead end streets, therefore, it does not qualify for the traffic calming program. In neighborhoods built like this the only people using the streets are residents to get in and out of there homes, which usually means the residents are the ones that are speeding. The traffic calming program was designed to help with cut-thru speeding traffic on residental roadways that were not built to maintain the heavy traffic flow, and speed. For speed limit enforcement you will need to contact your local police precinct and ask for radar enforcement. I will be glad to assist you in any way possible and answer any further questions you may have.
I believe you have the wrong subdivision. We don't have a Holt Run Drive nor a Stone Run Drive and it's not a one way in-one way out. Bryce Road and Cobble Roads, which are both roads within our subdivision, are used as the cut-through off of Bradford Hills Drive. When you are on Bradford Hills Drive, heading west, the only way out is through our subdivision. Not sure what you're looking at or referring to...
Speeding on Bradford Hills Dr is a non-stop problem, and the proof is out there - a house got destroyed by a speeding driver who missed the curve. Anyone listens?
Without an application from a neighborhood group, we are unable to proceed with any Traffic Calming Studies. More information is available on our website at http://www.nashville.gov/pw/mntmp/
If you are not interested in the Traffic Calming Program, you can contact your local police precinct and request speed limit enforcement.
Interesting, Public Works, we will advise our HOA representative to request such.
And yes, we are in contact with Sgt. Schmitz, the South Community Affairs Coordinator for the South Precinct with the Metro Police Dept.
I advise others to contact him, 880-3182, and advise him of this issue. He is also working on the noise complaint (booming stereos driving thru during the night and wee hours of the morning.)
A car drove thru my yard barely missing the house and hit a tree. Something really needs to be done before someone does get hurt. Where do we stand with the traffic calming program?
Ok, to whomever put up the radar speed trailer: Thanks. But, why put it right before the stop sign? You are not going to catch the speeders when they are slowing for the intersection.
