Spoke to some neighbors outdoors whenI moved in two weeks ago and was told their apartments were always freezing...
No heat or tiny amount of heat from one radiator (other dead)
Landlord's rep ( reports to Mr. Finkle of Related Companies) claims all is automated according to City Rules. Call 311 about no heat during the night and inspector shows up three days later when the daytime heat 53 degrees an declares you have no problem, worse, is listed as "problem resolved." Called City Councilman Mark Levine's Office and they simply emailed the heat regs for NYC buildings which I already knew and had discussed with them. Sent emails to Rep. Rangle and also State Senator no reply.

If your landlord does not restore your heat, please post his name and contact information and we will call him on your behalf.

Maintenance man came and fixed shade --sort of, it cannot be pulled up or down. I have some curtains but they are too wide for these windows ( windows in my old place were much wider).
He took the cover off of one radiator and said it would emit more heat. Also closed some windows which were open a hair.
Sprayed the kitchen. This is counter to what building manager told me, who said they would arrange an appt for some exterminator and I would have to be out of the apartment for a couple of hours.
This place is so badly run.
I get the feeling this Related Companies and this Mr. Finkle are probably some of the most unscrupulous landlords around. Someone prove me different.
Place reeks of roach spray now...yech. Now IHAVE to open some windows in the main room of the studio ( the kitchen window is jammed shut and maintenance man won't even attempt to open it).

Some heat this morning. Super (maintenance man) came by at noon --and-- I now am wise to this-- took temperature with his digital thermometer right after he walked in the door and said, oh, how warm it is. That is THERE, next to the door. When you walk way down to where my table and armchair and windows are at the far end, it is about 15 feet colder with a really creepy draft.
He said would be back Monday and "put plastic on the windows". OK. There is no view anyway.
We will just wait and see what happens. But if City Inspector comes here Monday, I will lead him down to this end of apt to take the temperature ( Don't let them pull something like that on you. As I have noted to people before, it will feel fine in the hallway and freezing down in my place towards where I sit at the computer and watch TV ( and where there is a radiator that emits a trickle of heat. The other one is practically dead. The maint. guy's solution was to take the outer panel off that one. ( see photo)
