Our dog went missing one night ago from our yard. Someone called and told us that they had seen her near Sherman by the highschool and she might have been hit & killed. We can’t get a solid answer on if this is true or not because the officer hasn’t been in and no one can give us any information. We were also told the dogs are picked up to go to the dump. SHE IS MICROCHIPPED. I don’t even know if they scanned her or not but if they did they would have been able to find us. We are distraught about her escaping and now possibly being dead. We need answers. We need to know if this is her. If anyone has any information please call me 917-575-4904.

Thanks for the reply! Yes we called animal control Saturday and they told us to post on a few forums, which we did immediately. We were fortunate to have someone call us and say they had seen her near the highschool near our home, however, the next call was to report they’d seen her get hit by a truck. Upon further investigation and a call to the police it was confirmed a dachshund marching her color was hit but the officer was no longer in the office. We called again today and still not around. But we were also told then that public works took the dog to the dump.
My dog is chipped. And the rude police officer I spoke to this morning confirmed they did not check if the dog was chipped. Then proceeded to blame me for her getting out without her collar. This is completely unacceptable.
We still do not know if this is our dog that is now rotting at the dump. Someone should have checked if this dog had any ounce of identification especially because they had seen the dog had a collar of some sort (if this is my dog she did have a soresto collar on). I am livid with the city of New Haven right now for their lack of communication and the policies they have put in place for the car and disposal of animals that have unfortunately been struck down by vehicles. Who knows how many people are still searching for their beloved animals but weren’t informed of accidents because they could not be bothered to check for a chip. That is what the chip is for.
I posted here to try and get some information from public works but I will also be calling and going there and to the dump tomorrow. They will find the body and I will identify if it’s my dog. Again, I find this truly unacceptable and something will be done.
