With St Clair Elementary demolished and St Mary's School closed, there are no school kids walking in this area. Can we take the "No Turn On Red School Days" signs down?
Yes there is a school in the area. The old St Mary's School now houses Summit Academy. They have been there for over 3 years, and were in the corner building before that. My children go there and the sign needs to stay up!
Summit Academy doesn't have nearly the vehicular traffic and none of the foot traffic that St Clair and St Mary's generated and does not start or end at the times on the signs.
Summit does in fact have children that walk or ride bikes. They also now have bus pickup in front of the school. Due to busing cuts in many districts where Summit pulls their students from, there has been an increase in carpool traffic as well. School starts at 7:45am and ends at 2:50pm. I suggest routing around the area if you are not happy with the school zones. Safety of the children who attend the school is more important that a minute saved by being able to turn right on red during a few restricted hours.
