The City of Oakland Public Works Agency has received this issue. It is registered as service request # 497385. Thank you, in advance, for your patience as we work through a backlog of pothole service requests. Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner. The backlog of streets in Oakland needing pavement currently is $435 million and growing.

We agree this is a hazard! It can cause a loss of balance along a very steep slope... we see a steady stream of bikers and pedestrians there. Would appreciate this being fixed.

Why was this CLOSED?? Less than 1/3 of this 20 ft pothole was repaired and the other 2/3 left untouched. Did the people attempting to makie this repair run out of material while on site?? My baby sister would have done a better job. This is an embarassment to Oakland Public Works Agency.

I agree with Phil. Given the quality of the work, I am disappointed the City of Oakland had to pay for the gasoline to drive the truck up there, much less the wages for the people who performed it. The patch material was full of clods of dirt, not tamped down, and seriously incomplete. It will take more time to fix correctly as a result of this failed attempt. I hope this example isn't emblematic of a process that rewards checking items off a task list in place of improving city infrastructure.

Due to the danger to cyclists, this issue was submitted last month to Oakland as a "TOP 10" for immediate attention under an agreement with the Bike East Bay Hazard Elimination program.
